When you create a campaign in Meta Ads Manager, you’ll start by choosing an objective. This tells Meta what you want people to do after seeing your ad, such as watching a video, visiting your website, sending a message, or submitting a form.
Meta uses that objective to decide how to deliver your campaign. When you select Traffic, Meta looks for people who click links. When you select Leads, Meta looks for people who submit forms, call, or start conversations. Choosing the wrong objective sends Meta after the wrong result.
Meta offers six campaign objectives: Awareness, Traffic, Engagement, Leads, App Promotion, and Sales. App Promotion is built for app downloads and activity, so real estate agents will primarily work with the other five.

Awareness
The Awareness objective helps more people see and remember your business. It’s built for visibility rather than an immediate response. For agents, this is great for brand recognition and brand building. You might promote a neighborhood video, recent success story, community update, or introduction to your business.
Choose Awareness when your goal is to become more familiar to people before they’re ready to buy or sell.
Traffic
The Traffic objective sends people to a specific destination, such as your website, blog, listing page, property search, or market report. Meta delivers the ad to people who regularly click links and visit landing pages.
Use Traffic to promote content people can read or explore. A neighborhood guide, educational article, local market update, or listing page fits this objective because the website visit is the intended result.
Don’t choose Traffic when you want leads. Traffic generates visits, not completed forms. When the goal is a home valuation request, property-alert registration, or consultation request, choose Leads.
The Engagement objective focuses on interactions such as video views, comments, shares, reactions, messages, and event responses. Use it to get more people to watch a listing video, respond to an open-house post, or message you about your business.
Engagement measures interaction with your content. It doesn’t measure buyer or seller intent. A person who watches a video or likes a post hasn’t requested information or agreed to a follow-up. Choose Engagement when the interaction itself is the goal.
The Leads objective is built for buyer and seller lead generation. It tells Meta to find people who complete a specific contact action rather than simply viewing or clicking the ad. That action can take place through a Meta Instant Form, a form on your website, a message, or a phone call. Common real estate offers include:
Choose Leads when you want someone to provide their information and give your team a clear reason to follow up.
The Sales objective is designed for purchases and other high-value website conversions. It's best for businesses with online stores, checkout processes, and product catalogs.
The sales objective doesn’t match the real estate sales process. Buyers don’t purchase homes through a Facebook checkout, and sellers don’t hire agents directly from an ad. The first meaningful conversion is an inquiry, registration, appointment, or conversation. Real estate agents should use Leads instead. It aligns the campaign with the first action that creates an actual business opportunity.

Choose the objective that matches the result you expect from the campaign.
Use Awareness to build recognition in a farm area. Use Traffic to send people to a page you want them to read or explore. Use Engagement to generate views, messages, comments, and other interactions. Use Leads to collect buyer and seller inquiries.
Ads promoting listings, home sales, rentals, mortgages, and other housing opportunities must also follow Meta’s Housing Special Ad Category rules. The objective doesn’t change those requirements. It only tells Meta which result to pursue.

An ad objective tells Meta what result you want from your campaign. Meta uses that choice to decide who sees the ad and which action to prioritize, such as a website visit, video view, message, or lead form submission.
Choose the Leads objective for buyer and seller lead generation. It directs Meta to find people who are more likely to submit a form, send a message, call your business, or complete another contact action.
Traffic focuses on website visits. Leads focuses on completed contact actions. Use Traffic when you want people to read or explore a page, and use Leads when you want them to submit their information.
Choose Awareness when you want more people in your local market to recognize your name. It works well for neighborhood content, community updates, client success stories, and other campaigns designed to build familiarity.
